June bugs. They might be the most hated insect second to the spider. As I type this I'm listening to them bounce off of my window like the dumb little goobers they are.
Since June bugs are so hated, I decided to take it upon myself to learn a little more about them. Just because.
Warning: You will be grossed out.
- Before they fly into mouth/face/hair, June bugs were once little white maggot-like grubs that hibernated in your yard's soil for 2-3 years.
- Sometimes, skunks and pigs go digging for pre-mature white maggot-like June bugs. Although I doubt pigs were munching out on YOUR lawn. If they were, that's pretty awesome.
- Scientifically June bugs are titled Phyllophaga. I dare you to call them that for the whole month of June!
- If you don't smoosh a June bug to death yourself, it will probably die the next day. They can't live for too long in the daylight (VAMPIRE BUGS!?)
- Sometimes, female flies lay eggs on the backs of June bugs. The June bugs can't reach the egg, which slowly takes over the Junebugs insides and grows from in there. What a way to die, eh? That's gross.
Hate 'em, or love 'em. June bugs clearly have a pretty awful and uneventful life. Together let's be thankful they are only around for a month.. And slay them as efficiently as possible.

Sad times, sad-der songs.
I have a little bit of a broken heart right now so I've compiled some of what I think are the best break up songs.
I'm a sap.

Real life Donkey Kong!

I thought I'd clip on to the zip line, and just zip all day. It was more like bootcamp in the tree tops. You have to go through a series of obstacles in order to get to the zip line. Challenging at points but TONS of fun! I want to go back ASAP.
The park opens to the public on May 1st. It's $35 for a training session + 3 hours in the park. Totally worth it.

Nova Scotia Summer to-do's.
Today I passed in my final graduation project. This means I am pretty well done school FOREVER!!!!
Holy shit. Can I repeat that? Done. School. Forever.
Because the sun is shining and I am the happiest camper in the NSCC Waterfront campus.. I've decided to start thinking about my summer to-do list. I've lived in NS for most of my life (minus 3 years in St. John's and 4 months in Charlottetown) but I have yet to experience a lot of what Nova Scotia has to offer. I can say that I've done this and you should too!
I have no clue who the chicks in the video are, I just wanted to show you how lovely this is.
Ahhhhh, tubing down the Gaspereau river in the Annnapolis Valley. Nova Scotia at it's finest. I suggest going with a large group and rotating a driver, only because the start of the river is wayyyyyyyyyy far away from the bottom of the river.
Can we go now?
Bring on the heat. And the water. And Maritimey summer fun.
What are your favorite NS day trips? Leave 'em here. I clearly need to add to my list!
Peace and luv,
Morgan

Jumped on the Hunger bandwagon.
Last night my sister asked me to go le cinema and of course suggested "The Hunger Games." Not having read any of the books, I wasn't really down with the idea at first. I also lumped the movie into the Twilight/Harry Potter type deal (two things that I have/will never get into.)
That was silly of me.
We ended up going to the movie and I absolutely loved it.
I'm not going to review the movie because that's what Rotten Tomatoes is for. If you want to go to a movie that is actually worth paying money to go see, go see it. I was on the edge of my seat the whole 2 and half hours.
Orrrr if you would like an 11 minute summary of the awesomeness that is The Hunger Games in good ol' beanie baby form... Here ya go.

While I'm on that new song tip..
This. Song. Rules. It's the new one from Vancouver's Japandroids - "The House That Heaven Built" from their new album that comes out June 5th.. "Celebration Rock."
I love this band on record and even more live. Their 2009 album "Post Nothing" will make you dance, smile and maybe even punch shit.

Edward Sharpe is back!
Alabama, Arkensas, I do love my ma and pa, not the way that I do love youuuuuuu.
The bubbly love tune from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zero's seemed to catch on like wild fire 2 years ago.
I got the chance to see them live at Osheaga 2010. At the time I had only heard "Home" and was watching the show from a mile away on a hill. Frontman Alexander Ebert seemed like the happiest man alive on stage. The band liked playing a little too much and went over their timeslot. Osheaga personnell went on stage and told them it was time to wrap up their set. Snoop Dogg was up next, lol.
Watching the band from afar was enough to get me into their debut album "Up From Below." To be honest, I didn't fall in love with it at all. It fell a little short for me.
But after hearing this tune, perhaps there's hope for me to fall back in love like on that hill in Montreal.
Their new album "Here" is out on May 29th. This is the first track, "Man On Fire."

When Love Meets The Online World.
Being romantic today is a lot more complicated than it used to be.. I don't have to be a smartie pants to tell you that. There's texting, BBM (omg he read my msg and didn't reply), online-chat, emailing, Skype, FaceTime and a plethera of other crap. If that wasn't complicated enough, some even declare "it's complicated" right on their Facebook page to their entire friends list.
Does any of it really matter, though?
I thought it was an interesting enough topic, so I dug a little deeper.
Here's a little segment about social media and relationships I did for school. I was lucky enough to chat with Dr. Bernie Hogan, an Oxford social media researcher. His insight into the topic draws a conclusion that everyone should have to know.

Photoshoots and photoshoots and photoshoots.
A very cool dual assignment happened upon us NSCC Radio & TV Arts students. We were to have one of the photography students at the school work with each of us in creating a bunch of stellar photos for our portfolios/websites/to make us famous. We'll see about the last one..
I've had 3 photoshoots so far with my photographer gal who is also named Morgan. She's been awesome. She has a kid and dreads and was wearing a Public Enemy t-shirt today (need I say more?)
The 3rd shoot we did wrapped up tonight. I decided it would be cool if we went in the Live 105 studios and got me doin' my thang in there. It was a buttload of fun. I even ended up putting on red lipstick.
That was about as exciting as my weekend got.. Until I stopped at Sobeys on the way home and got a lime, tonic water and dill pickle seasoning. TRY and guess what my night has ended up looking like.
If you feel so inclined, stay tuned for the photos. I am going to blow up all of my social media with them when she's finished editing them.. So I hope you don't mind my face.
Peace and luv,
Morgan

Procrastination station.
With only two months left till I'm done school the assignments are piling on. It's the first time this school year that I've actually not been on my A-game.

Peace and luv,
Why? I can only speculate. I'm very scared to graduate and become a "society contribuer." Being a student is the perfect excuse for everything. If you're a student you don't need a great job, you can live at home, take the bus, party like a rockstar.. (okay only a one of those things are actually cool.)
The main issue of my procrastination is probably what many Maritimers are dealing with right now.
THE WEATHER!! Would ya just look it! <-
The last thing I want to do is coop myself up in a production studio in the basement of my school.
But alas... A radio-student's gotta do what a radio student's gotta do.
Tomorrow is supposed to see a high of 26. March 22 in Nova Scotia... With sunshine and a high of 26.
We'll see how much I get done. ^-^

Morgan

Fresh Tatt #2
Welp, I got tattooed today! Thanks Scott Forbes from Oceanic Art!
I've been thinking about getting this tattoo for almost a year now. The idea had never left my mind so I figured it was time to stop being a chickenshit and get 'er done. I'm super glad I did. I'm in love with my arm like never before. (Even though right now it hurts like hell and looks like shit #healing).

It's my second tattoo. I also have this guy on my back.

Kind of a crap pic, took it before it was healed. I got the owl 2ish years ago from Lydia K (she used to work at Utility and now runs her own lil shop in Halifax.)
Both artists were a great experience and I'm stoked I got to work with both of them.
By no means am I a tattoo expert. I know very little about tattoos, other than I think if done well they can be an amazing thing. When I got my first tattoo I was scared shitless. Like many I thought my pure-clean-skinned-soft-bod would be tainted and drawn on forever. I was worried after a year I wouldn't like it anymore.
Oh, then there was the whole pain thing. I'm the biggest baby that ever walked. I whine at the slightest discomfort. Tattoos hurt. They feel quite literally like a needle is being dragged across your skin. Some spots are much worse than others.. but ff I can handle it, anyone can!
What's most important to me about getting tattooed is knowing that I'm going to love them forev. I'm not into the idea that every tattoo a person gets has to have some sort of extreme significance. As long as you like the way it looks and makes you feel, that's what matters. Common sense, don't you think? But I still get asked the question of "so what does it mean.."
My first tattoo (the owl) came from an ornament my mom has in our kitchen window. I love the ornament, I absolutely love owls and I love my mom even more. I brought the ornament into Lydia and she turned it into an amazing piece of art.
The bad-boy I got on my under-bicep today is pretty clear to see. I knew I wanted a peace sign for a while, but I didn't want just a peace sign. The idea of making a puzzle out of leaves to somehow form a peace sign came to me one day. Luckily when I walked into Oceanic with this crazy idea.. Scott made it a reality.
All in all I'm a very happy lady. If you're thinking about getting a tattoo and not sure, think about it some more. I waited about a year on both of my tattoo ideas. You'll be that much more excited when it happens if you wait it out.
I heard from a listener once that certain Subway shops don't allow you to have tattoos. Eff that job.
Peace (for real now) and luv,
Morgan

From Dartmouth to Charlottetin'
I'll be the first person to admit that being in a long distance relationship is hard. I always thought it was something I'd never be willing to do but that certainly isn't that case anymore, and I'm glad. Ryan and I started dating last May when I was living in Charlottetown, PEI. When I had to move back to Dartmouth, we figured out that we didn't want to be without each other, and we've been sticking it out ever since. Love is crazy/but awesome.
Ryan owns his own car so lately he's been making the wintery weekend trips to come see me. I had a week off from school/work and gladly made the shuttle-trek to Ye Olde Charlottetown.
Even in the winter (with the mud/slush mixtures), I love this place.
I thought the week was going to be boring in the best way possible. Ryan works full-time and had a writing deadline he had to meet by the end of the week. I was content vegging the whole time, but that's not how my week turned out.
Okay, I probably did do a decent amount of veggin'. But I also cooked/baked (not myself)/drank a buttload. Seriously, if I've ever over-did it on all of those things, this was the time. I even refferred to myself to Ryan as a "drunk house-wife" at one point.
Besides figuring out that cake pops are the funnest and cutest treats to bake, I ended up having a wild time. An awesome new found friend of mine, Jenn, planned a surprise birthday party for him. This could not have worked out greater considering Ryan's birthday is on St. Patty's day. We spent a lot of the week getting together hilarious stuff for said party. We went all out.
60 balloons, cake, cake-pops, green steamers and shot glasses, happy birthday banners, yada, yada, yada. Oh, we also got him a green dinosaur-meets-lizard pinata and filled it with fortune cookies, among other treats. My god he is lucky, am I right?
Here's me before Ryan blew out his 25 candles.
Aaaaand everyone who was drinking green beer on St. Patty's wish they were drinking this.

The party certainly wasn't as conservative this may seem.. It was pretty wild. Ryan took a shot filled with whipped cream from between my legs (messy but hilarious.) ..In the end I'm probably never going to get drunk off anything from a punch bowl ever again.
His birthday was yet another reason why I wanted to make the trip up to Charlottetown. I also miss good friends of mine that I rarely get to see and my old co-workers.
Even though long-distance romance isn't easy, having him in Charlottetown makes it a lot better as you can probably see.
Now I'm starting to feel bad that when he comes to see me, we're stuck in Fartmouth.
Oh well. :)
Till next toime,
Morgan
A blog post about me!?
Can you believe it? Yep, it's true. I'm graduating from the Nova Scotia Community College Radio and Television Arts program in June. The amount I've grown/learned about myself in the past 2 years has been unreal. A recruitment worker for the school interviewed me and wrote about my "success" in the program. Hard work pays off, a little at a time!
Here's the link if you wanna read about my super fun school times.
Peace and luv,

Let me introduce myself..
If you're reading this you might perhaps want to know a little bit more about me. I'm coo with that. I'm the gal who is on the Live 105 airwaves Sunday (11-5pm) and Monday night (6-11pm). I love my job. I'm graduating from NSCC and becoming a real working lady in June. I took Radio & Television Arts there. I essentially learned there how to be a total goofball and get paid for it.
The best part about what I do is that I get to be myself. I love the tunage on Live 105 and therefore have no trouble bonding with you listeners. Yep, we bond.
Second to having the coolest job.. I spend my time doing the usual 20-something year old gal stuff, except for my culinary habits. I absolutely love cooking and baking (when I was 18 I even had a foodie blog.) Chances are, if you follow me on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram you've probably seen most of what goes into my mouth. ~ that's what she said ~
I was about to get into talking music... But I think I'll save that for the next post. Keep you hanging on, right? If there's anything you want to hear my opinion on, gimme a shout.
Oh, and follow me on Twitta. I'm only annoying half of the time! www.twitter.com/morganyep
Peace and luv,
Morgan
